Annual meetings: At The Masters and the U.S. Open.

Awards dinner: The Wednesday before The Masters.

Membership: Regular: full-time golf writer/editor of a recognized publication; Associate: freelance writer or press officer of a national golf organization; Professional: public relations and marketing.

Annual fee: $70 for regular and associate. $150 for professional.

Are Internet reporters allowed? Yes.

Financial contracts: The GWAA has a scholarship program, initiated in 1988 with a $10,000 grant from the Ryder Foundation. There are now grants of $100,000 from Ryder, PGA Tour, PGA of America, USGA and Shell Oil. Then there is the annual Golf Writers tournament in Myrtle Beach in April. Issues include the fact that complimentary lodging is offered. Entry fee is $250, which includes four nights of accommodations, three rounds of golf, welcome reception and cocktail party, dinner and cocktails on Saturday and an awards banquet on Sunday. Sponsored by Sea Trail Golf Resort, Caledonia Golf and Fish Club and the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Activities: William D. Richardson Award (individual who consistently made outstanding contribution to golf). Ben Hogan Award (individual who continues to be active in golf despite physical handicap or illness. Bronze statuette donated by Ben Hogan division of Spalding Sports worldwide). Charles Bartlett Award (playing pro for unselfish contributions to the betterment of society). Player of the year: male, female and senior. GWAA members also vote in PGA World Golf Hall of Fame selections.

Writing contest: Held annually.
