That's right, we're coming down the stretch for the 2009 APSE Judging Convention in Las Vegas and it's imperative that we communicate over the next three weeks before we land on Feb. 21.
First off, if you have any questions concerning your APSE contest entries, fire me an e-mail at ghoward@journalsentinel.com as fast as possible. I will get right back at you swiftly so your submissions can be in compliance with the rules before you mail them off to the catchers before deadline.
If, for some reason, you can't make the Feb. 2 deadline, please call me at the Journal Sentinel at (414) 224-2306. We'll see if we can work around your problem.
With just 70 judges confirmed for Vegas, we are obviously facing a tough five days of work ... please be ready to dive right into (we are more than likely going to start judging on Saturday night) your duties.
The good news is this: We will have enough judges to get through – although it will take focus and discipline on the judges' part to complete their respective tasks.
Toward that end, APSE is providing box lunches or a buffet on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and there will be plenty of food at the opening reception on Saturday evening after the scheduled 5 p.m. meeting.
Attached to this column is a list of those judges from around the country who have indicated that they will be in attendance. I have already slotted the judges into the categories they will be working.
If your name appears on this list and you are not planning on attending, then I have made a mistake and you need to contact me ASAP. If you are planning on attending and you are not on this list, then I have made a mistake and you need to contact me ASAP. Simple, right?
Also, you can also find the PDF for the contest attached to this column and it explains all of the rules. If, for some reason, you have a problem and you can't find the answer, call me. Today.
And lastly, I want to thank each and every Sports Editor for their help in advance. This is a huge part of our organization and we must make it work.
And you know what?
It will.
See you in Vegas!
