April 13 and Sept. 15: Two good examples of what we call "manufacturing'' centerpieces on otherwise slow days. Anything to avoid the routine game photos from Heat, Panthers, Marlins, etc. With the Marlins package, just wanted to give readers an informative stretch-drive preview as Florida began a crucial 10-game road trip with a logjam of teams in the wild-card race. Pullouts made this work ... good, succinct information. The Florida story came not long after the Gators won the national championship and not longer before players could declare for the NBA Draft. Noah and Co. had been saying they all were returning, but we decided to get some outside "voices: on the subject and at least raise the possibility that they could change their minds. Again, quickie pullouts at least gave readers food for thought.

June 21: The end of a long run for the Heat ... and our staff. Toughest thing about this night was little turnaround time to hit every angle of the championship. So many things to write, so little time. Planning helps, of course, especially with the Page 6CC recap of the Finals, including portions of the front pages from all six games, and the 3CC blurbs on each of South Florida's champs. The front page eventually came together well, especially after subbing out an early photo and including other game fronts up top.

Nov. 20: Always a busy Monday with Trump's LPGA event, the NASCAR race at Homestead, and the Dolphins/NFL section. We gave the LPGA event a 1A splash with a column and lead art, allowing us to play up what more readers wanted, anyway – turn-to-turn coverage of the Nextel Cup finale.

We do photo pages with many major events, especially in our back yard, so that's a nice touch with NASCAR and the abbreviated version for LPGA.

■ Here's a HUGE tip for making the PDF download process easier: Instead of clicking on the link to open the PDF from the browser, simply put your cursor over the link and right click and choose either "Save Target As..." (in Microsoft's Internet Explorer) or "Save Target Link As..." (in Netscape and Mozilla Firefox). What this will do is download the PDF to your harddrive. Once it's on your harddrive, it is much easier and faster to open and print.
