We want your stories!
Story posted on March 23, 2006
It's that time of the year again. Time to send your contest winning entries to be posted on the APSE Website.
Below is an e-mail note that is sent out to each writer from Bob Yates of The Dallas Morning News. For your benefit, it is also being posted on the Web site.
Dear __________,
I am writing to request your APSE writing contest top-five place winner for our contest report.
We run ALL five placers in each category.
As we have in recent years, we are going to put the contest report on the APSE Web site and hope to include your section's work.
Please send a copy of the entries via e-mail to Chuck Grimes at cgrimes@dallasnews.com and sptwcg@mindspring.com. Please also send a copy to me at byates@dallasnews.com.
Please follow these helpful instructions. It will allow us to get the contest report online much quicker and with greater precision.
• Sending the story already coded in HTML is preferred. Please make sure there is no unnecessary or extraneous coding included.
• The headline, drop head (if there is one) and byline all noted in a clear manner.
• With the stories NOT sent as HTML, we need to know when a new paragraph starts. Either put a <p> at the end of each paragraph (preferred) or put an extra line or two of space between paragraphs.
• With multiple story entries (columns, enterprise, project reporting, etc.), please send them in the order they should appear and note them that way (1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc.)
• With multiple stories, send them separately in an e-mail (even if it means 20 e-mails). Sending all 20 in one e-mail could cause a system crash, and the information will not be received.
• Feel free to submit photos that went with the story, especially mug shots of the columnists. Those always spruce up the story online and break up the monotony of black text on a white background.
• A contact name and number in case there are problems.
• If you want to send Chuck a link to your online story (as long as it's the same version), he can just grab it from there. You need to make sure that it's not behind a registration wall, and it's still going to be in the database for the foreseeable future.
Keep an eye on http://apse.dallasnews.com for the contest report. Please note that there is no 'www' in our Internet address.
Regards,
Bob Yates
