2009 APSE WINTER JUDGING CONVENTION
APSE bylaws changes

Story posted on Feb. 22, 2009

The following two changes to the APSE bylaws were approved at the APSE Winter Meetings opening executive committee meeting Saturday night.

TWO Proposed amendments to the bylaws of the Associated Press Sports Editors.

RESOLVED, that upon final adoption of this motion, the APSE bylaws are changed in the following manner:

Under MEMBERSHIP, strike out all of A and replace with the following:

A. Membership is open to all newspaper administrative sports department executives, their supervisors and their assistants, regardless of whether those papers are members of the Associated Press. Former presidents of APSE are members, even if no longer qualified under the provisions of the previous sentence. Membership is also available to enrolled undergraduate or graduate students who intend to pursue a career in journalism. Recent graduates who have yet to obtain their first job may also become student members. Once they get their first job, they must fulfill the normal requirements to become a full or associate APSE member. Student members are NOT eligible to vote and CANNOT hold office. They may participate on committees and attend meetings. Membership is subject to approval by the executive committee.

In C, add this sentence: Students members are not eligible to vote. This amendment shall take effect immediately upon final adoption.

RESOLVED, that upon final adoption of this motion, the APSE bylaws are changed in the following manner:

In all references, the phrase secretary/treasurer and convention coordinator will become Executive Director. This amendment shall take effect immediately upon final adoption.
