The West Region has scheduled its annual region meeting for Monday, Nov. 2 at the LA Times building in Los Angeles.
The day-long gathering will, for the first time, incorporate members of AWSM (the Association of Women in Sports Media). The University of Southern California's Annenberg School of Journalism has also expressed interest in having its students attend selected sessions.
Topics for discussion this year include Social Networking as a sports tool, performing investigative and/or watchdog journalism with fewer resources, and how to best share stories in alternative forms both in print and online.
Feedback is always welcome. If you have additional session ideas or specifics on any of the sessions above, please e-mail Lauren Gustus at lgustus@rgj.com.

In Spot Sports Story, Michael C. Lewis placed first for his report from the women's marathon at the Beijing Olympics, a piece which also received first in the APSE contest, and the team of Lewis, Siler, Monson, Kragthorpe, Steve Luhm, Steve Oberbeck and Mike Gorrell placed second for their coverage of the death of Utah Jazz owner Larry H.
