With a circulation of about 9,000, the Woodstock Sentinel-Review two-man sports department likes to be ahead of the game when it comes to doing different things.
Over the last month, our paper has been under a small transformation when it comes to the way we use video on our website. Two months ago we just had the basics on our site ... but now we continuously have video accompanying our coverage.
So we thought why not apply it to sports ... and doing it along side our annual four-page pullout introducing the local junior hockey team was a good place top start.
I approached the managing editor about it and he was all for it, so the next step was just getting our photographer on board ... which was pretty easy considering it would be a first of some sort.
Next up, we asked the hockey club ... and as usual, they were pretty accommodating.
So before practice our photographer Elliot Ferguson and I went over what we wanted and drew up a small storyboard.
The end result was pretty good for a first time effort. Click here to view it.
The four page pull out is on the following link:

Within the first hour of the video's release early in the morning, we had about 75 hits ... by noon there was over 130 ... and by the evening there was about 300 hits and counting.
Overall, I think the experiment was a success and has encouraged us to possibly pursue other video to accompany our sports coverage. One idea for the near future is to do a weekly mash up of the week's highlights courtesy of the team.
