Friedman hired at Glens Falls Post-Star

■ The Glens Falls (N.Y.) Post-Star has hired Jackie Friedman as a sportswriter. She will cover high school sports and write features. Friedman, a graduate of Syracuse University, completing an internship with the Minneapolis Star Tribune this summer. She has also interned at The Buffalo News and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
GREAT PLAINS
■ The Omaha World-Herald announced the following changes:
— Doug Thomas was named assistant sports editor/content and oversees assigning, budgeting and line editing in the department from day to day. Doug had been interim sports editor.
— Tim Parks was named assistant sports editor/presentation and leads the department in planning and execution of all visual elements. Tim had been lead sports designer.
— Nick Piastowski was named assistant sports editor/nights and oversees the night desk operations, including section editing, wire editing, slotting and proofing in the section from day to day. Nick had been a sports copy editor.
■ Denver hired Lindsay Jones to cover the Denver Broncos. Jones was covering the University of Florida for the Palm Beach Post. She replaces Bill Williamson, who left to write the AFC West blog for ESPN.com.
■ The Tulsa World promoted James Royal to assistant sports editor from lead page designer.
■ Graham Watson has left the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to blog on colleges for ESPN.com.
■ The Oklahoman has hired Chase Colston as a page designer. Colston previously worked at the Tyler (Texas) Morning Telegraph.
SOUTHEAST
■ The Naples (Fla.) Daily News hired Adam Fisher to cover high school sports. Fisher, formerly a correspondent for the Daily News, moved to Florida from the Chronicle-Tribune in Marion, Ind., where he spent almost three years covering local sports. Prior to Marion, Fisher was the sports editor of the Niles (Mich.) Daily Star. Fisher is a Ball State graduate.
■ Patrick Obley was named sports editor at the Charlotte Sun in Port Charlotte, Fla. Obley comes to the paper from The State in Columbia, S.C. where he was a sports writer for six years. Prior to The State, Obley was the assistant sports editor and design editor at The Sun. He replaces John Fineran.
SOUTHWEST
■ The Odessa American has hired Willie Bans, a recent San Diego State graduate who worked this summer for MLB.com.
■ San Angelo sports editor Charles Bryce confirmed that the Standard-Times has no plans to replace the loss of a reporting position from its sports staff.
■ Movement in the sports department in Dallas: Todd Wills, a former preps
reporter, is a freelancer for MLB.com; Albert Breer, who was a Cowboys beat writer, accepted a position at the Sporting News; Chip Brown, the former University of Texas beat writer for the DMN, is working as a columnist/writer covering the University of Texas beat for Yahoo!/Rivals.com.
■ In Lubbock, Jeff Walker is the Avalanche-Journal's new sports editor and has been on the job since the beginning of summer. Former sports editor Patrick Gonzales left to take an ASE position in Detroit. Walker will continue to cover the Texas Tech men's
basketball beat in addition to his promotion. The A-J also has welcomed Travis Cram from its news copy desk to sports, where he will cover the Texas Tech women's basketball beat. Adam Zuvanich, who covered women's basketball last year, will be one of two people on the Texas Tech football beat.
■ The El Paso Times recently filled a preps writing position with North Texas graduate Aaron Bracamontes, who was an editor at the school's newspaper. Matt Johnson, who moved over to the sports department from news a year ago, was promoted to ASE earlier this year.
