Who's in charge: Individual tourneys take care of credentials
for almost all events. The LPGA only handles the Solheim
Cup. The USGA manages the U.S. Women's Open.
How to apply: In most cases, contact the PR director of the
tournament. For the Open, contact the USGA at (908) 234-2300, ext. 1040.
Contact the LPGA for the Solheim Cup.
Deadlines: At least two weeks ahead for most tourneys, about a month ahead for the
Solheim Cup, as much as two months ahead for the
Open.
The process: Decisions are made by various tourneys, but an LPGA official said
legitimate daily newspapers should get a credential in most, if not all, cases.
You may be asked for proof of coverage if you're from outside the normal
market.
Helpful hints: The earlier the request, the better your
chances of success. For small papers, it's helpful to explain why you need a
credential.

Information about the credentialing process
was supplied by media relations officials in each sport or league. Officials
were asked to describe policies as they apply to daily newspapers, especially
small and midsized papers, or those less likely to hold season-long
"hard" credentials.
Deadlines are general and can change from year
to year. It is best to make contact with an organization far ahead of time to
avoid missing a deadline.
Keep in mind that not all credentials provide
access to the event itself. Some credentials are limited to work rooms and
interview areas.
If you use any of the e-mail addresses listed
here, make sure you have a positive response before any application deadlines.
Personnel, and their e-mails, do change from time to time.
