Who's in charge: Clubs issue credentials for regular-season
games and most playoffs. The NHL oversees Stanley Cup Finals, Entry Draft,
All-Star weekend and the World Cup when it's in the U.S.
How to apply: See information under "deadlines."
Deadlines: Dates are announced in the league's media directory, releases available
through individual clubs and in advisories posted on www.nhlmedia.com.
The process: For big events, preference is given to those who regularly cover a club
or the league, but consideration is given to media in areas where events are
held.
Helpful hints: One-on-one interviews with specific players
are best planned for practice days. If you're not sure of deadlines, call the
league. If you cannot use a credential, it's vital that you inform the team or
league

Information about the credentialing process
was supplied by media relations officials in each sport or league. Officials
were asked to describe policies as they apply to daily newspapers, especially
small and midsized papers, or those less likely to hold season-long
"hard" credentials.
Deadlines are general and can change from year
to year. It is best to make contact with an organization far ahead of time to
avoid missing a deadline.
Keep in mind that not all credentials provide
access to the event itself. Some credentials are limited to work rooms and
interview areas.
If you use any of the e-mail addresses listed
here, make sure you have a positive response before any application deadlines.
Personnel, and their e-mails, do change from time to time.
